Base Flow

1. Sustained flow of a stream in the absence of direct runoff. It includes natural and human-induced streamflows. Natural base flow is sustained largely by ground-water discharge.
2. Streamflow which results from precipitation that infiltrates into the soil and it eventually moves through the soil to the stream channel.
3. Portion of river flow that comes from groundwater, rather than runoff.
