Characterization of human health effects

A component of the analysis phase of microbial risk assessment that evaluates the ability of a pathogenic microorganism to cause adverse human health effects under a particular set of conditions. Steps in this process are host characterization, evaluation of human health effects, and quantification of the dose-response relationship; the result is a host-pathogen profile.
