Clearcutting

1. A silvicultural system in which all merchantable trees are harvested within a specified area in one operation to create an even-aged stand.
2. Harvesting all the trees in one area at one time, a practice that can encourage fast rainfall or snowmelt runoff, erosion, sedimentation of streams and lakes, and flooding, and destroys vital habitat.
