Contaminant of concern

1. Anything that makes the water or land impure, unclean or polluted.

2. Harmful or hazardous matter introduced into the environment.

3. Any physical, chemical, biological, or radiological substance found in air, water, soil or biological matter that has a harmful effect on plants or animals; harmful or hazardous matter introduced into the environment.

4. A contaminant is any physical, chemical, biological, or radiological substance or matter present in any media at concentrations that may pose a threat to human health or the environment.

5. A substance that is either present in an environment where it does not belong or is present at levels that might cause harmful (adverse) health effects.
