Cytoplasmic inheritance

1. A property of genes located in mitochondria or chloroplasts (or possibly other extranuclear organelles).

2. Vertical transmission of hereditary characters by DNA from cytoplasmic organelles such as mitrochrondria; chloroplasts; and plastids, or from plastids or viral episomal DNA.
