1. Documented information or evidence of any kind.
2. Symbols, or representations, of facts or ideas that can be communicated, interpreted, or processed by manual or automated means. Often associated with electronic data or with statistics or measurements.
3. A collection of facts, numbers, or other pieces of information. Scientists use a variety of techniques to gather data about the Earth's climate. A single fact is called a datum (the singular form of data).
4. A reinterpretable representation of information in a formalized manner suitable for communication, interpretation, or processing. [ISO/IEC 2382-1:1993]
