Quantities, characters, or symbols on which operations are performed by a computer or other electrical system, stored and transmitted in the form of electrical signals. In digital systems, data is represented as binary digits (bits), which are grouped into bytes. Analog systems represent data as a continuous range of values, such as the voltage level of a signal from a sensor.
