Degree of freedom
Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-007543
The total number of items in a sample minus the number of independent relationships existing among them; the divisor used to calculate a variance term; in the simplest cases, it is one less than the number of observations. Degrees of freedom refers to how many variables in a single system are free to vary independently. Degrees of freedom may by none {0} or many. A single variable algebraic equation has no degrees of freedom.
