Depression

1. A low area in a field where surface drainage away from the area does not occur.

2. General term for any relatively sunken part of the Earth’s surface - especially a low-lying area surrounded by higher ground. Depressions often have no natural outlet for surface drainage (such as an interior basin or a karstic sinkhole) (Jackson 1997).
