Diffuse Insolation

1. The solar radiation that is scattered or reflected by atmospheric components (e.g., clouds) to the earth's surface. [DOE Atmospheric Radiation Measurement Climate Research Facility Glossary].
2. Sunlight received indirectly as a result of scattering due to clouds, fog, haze, dust, or other obstructions in the atmosphere. Opposite of direct insolation.
