1. The solar radiation that is transmitted directly through the atmosphere to the earth's surface without interacting with atmospheric components [DOE Atmospheric Radiation Measurement Climate Research Facility Glossary].
2. Sunlight falling directly upon a collector. Opposite of diffuse insolation.
