1. It the direction of decreasing static (potentiometric) head.

2. The direction that ground water flows; similar in concept to downstream for surface water, such as a river.

3. The direction that groundwater flows; similar to "downstream" for surface water.

4. Groundwater located in the same direction as groundwater flow from a specified location.

5. In the direction of decreasing static head (potential).
