Extensive Garden

Extensive gardens have thinner soil depths and require less management and less structural support than intensive gardens. They do not require artificial irrigation. Plants chosen for these gardens are low-maintenance, hardy species that do not have demanding habitat requirements. The goal of an extensive planting design is to have a self-sustaining plant community.
