Extremely Hazardous Substance

1. Under EPA regulations under EPCRA Section 302, extremely hazardous substances (EHSs) are 366 CERCLA substances currently listed at 40 CFR 355. For emergency planning and notification purposes, these substances are listed because of their acute toxic properties.

2. A substance listed in Appendices A and B of this part.

3. Any substance which may cause death, serious injury, or substantial property damage, including but not limited to, any “regulated substance” at or below any threshold quantity set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator under 42 U.S.C. 7412(r)(5).[85 FR 22250; The Navigable Waters Protection Rule: Definition of “Waters of the United States]
