Fuel Gas System

Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-011793

1. System of compressors, piping, knock-out pots, mix drums, and units used to remove sulfur contaminants from the fuel gas (e.g., amine scrubbers) that collects refinery fuel gas from one or more sources for treatment as necessary prior to combusting in process heaters or boilers. A fuel gas system may have an overpressure vent to a flare but the primary purpose for a fuel gas system is to provide fuel to the refinery.

2. Offsite and onsite piping and flow and pressure control system that gathers gaseous stream(s) generated by onsite operations, may blend them with other sources of gas, and transports the gaseous stream for use as fuel gas in combustion devices or in-process combustion equipment, such as furnaces and gas turbines, either singly or in combination. [40 CFR 60.481 (CFR 2013)] [40 CFR 60.481a (CFR 2013)] [40 CFR 63.1101 (CFR 2013)][40 CFR 63.1082 (CFR 2013)][40 CFR 63.981 (CFR 2013)] [40 CFR 65.2 (CFR 2013)] [40 CFR 60.481b (CFR 2024)] [40 CFR 60.5430b (CFR 2024)] [40 CFR 60.611a (CFR 2024)]

3. System of compressors, piping, knock-out pots, mix drums, and, if necessary, units used to remove sulfur contaminants from the fuel gas (e.g., amine scrubbers) that collects fuel gas from one or more sources for treatment, as necessary, and transport to a stationary combustion unit. A fuel gas system may have an overpressure vent to a flare but the primary purpose for a fuel gas system is to provide fuel to the various combustion units at the refinery or petrochemical plant.
