Gaeumannomyces graminis var. graminis

Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-011985

Gaeumannomyces graminis var. graminis was formerly confused with the wheat take-all fungus, now separated as a distinct variety, Gaeumannomyces graminis var. tritici. Also distinct from the oat take-all fungus, Gaeumannomyces graminis var. avenae. Previous reports as Gaeumannomyces graminis could be any of these three varieties, therefore the true host range within the Poaceae requires confirmation. Host: Oryza sativa (rice) and other Poaceae. Avena sativa (oats) and Triticum aestivum (wheat) are infected by var. graminis when inoculated, but wheat take-all and oat take-all diseases are caused by var. tritici and var. avenae, respectively. The true host range of var. graminis requires confirmation.
