Gasoline

Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-012080

1. The most important refinery product is motor gasoline, a blend of hydrocarbons with boiling ranges from ambient temperatures to about 400°F. The important qualities for gasoline are octane number (antiknock), volatility (starting and vapor lock), and vapor pressure (environmental control). Additives are often used to enhance performance and provide protection against oxidation and rust formation.

2. Any fuel sold in any State for use in motor vehicles and motor vehicle engines, or nonroad or stationary engines, and commonly or commercially known or sold as gasoline.

3. Any petroleum distillate or petroleum distillate/alcohol blend having a Reid vapor pressure of 27.6 kilopascals or greater which is used as a fuel for internal combustion engines. [40 CFR 60.501 (CFR 2013)][40 CFR 63.11100 (CFR 2013)]

4. Any petroleum distillate or petroleum distillate/alcohol blend having a Reid vapor pressure of 27.6 kilopascals (4.0 pounds per square inch absolute (psia)) or greater which is used as a fuel for internal combustion engines. Aviation gasoline is included in this definition.

5. For testing, gasoline has the meaning given in subpart F of this part.

6. Any fuel sold in any State for use in motor vehicles and motor vehicle engines, and commonly or commercially known or sold as gasoline.

7. For in-use fuels, gasoline means fuel that is commonly and commercially know as gasoline, including ethanol blends.

8. (1) Any fuel sold in the United States for use in motor vehicles and motor vehicle engines, and commonly or commercially known or sold as gasoline. (2) For purposes of subpart M of this part, any and all of the products specified at § 80.1407(c).
