Genotoxicity

1. The ability of a substance to cause DNA damage.
2. A broad term that usually refers to a chemical that has the ability to damage DNA or the chromosomes. This can be determined directly by measuring mutations or chromosome Abnormalities or indirectly by measuring DNA repair, sister-chromatid exchange, etc. Mutagenicity is a subset of genotoxicity.
