Glossic Horizon

The glossic horizon (Gr. glossa, tongue) develops as a result of the degradation of an argillic, kandic, or natric horizon from which clay and free iron oxides are removed. A glossic horizon generally occurs between an overlying albic horizon and an underlying argillic, kandic, or natric horizon or fragipan. It can lie between an argillic, cambic, or kandic horizon and a fragipan.
