Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-012761
The gypsic horizon is an illuvial horizon in which secondary gypsum has accumulated to a significant extent. Most gypsic horizons occur in arid environmentswhere the parent materials are rich in gypsum. In soils that have ground water near the surface, capillary rise and evaporation plus transpiration can result in significant accumulations of gypsum.
