Hypothesis testing
Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-013767
1. Hypothesis testing is a statistical technique that uses experimental data to determine whether a hypothesis is incorrect. Most commonly, a hypothesis of no effect is tested by determining whether data as extreme as those obtained in an experiment or more extreme, would occur with a prescribed low probability given that the null hypothesis is true.
2. Statistical test of an assumption about a characteristic of a population. The goal of the statistical inference is to decide which of two complementary hypotheses is likely to be true.
3. A statistical procedure for determining if a sample provides sufficient evidence to reject or accept one statement regarding the population of interest in favor of an alternative statement. (ORD)
4. statistical technique that uses experimental data to determine whether a hypothesis is incorrect. Most commonly, a hypothesis of no effect is tested by determining whether data as extreme as those obtained in an experiment or more extreme, would occur with a prescribed low probability given that the null hypothesis is true.
