Immune system
Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-013845
1. All internal structures and processes providing defense against disease-causing organisms such as viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites.
2. The body's defense mechanism against foreign organisms or substances and deviant native cells. It includes the humoral immune response and the cell-mediated response and consists of a complex of interrelated cellular, molecular, and genetic components.
3. The collection of cells and organs whose role is to protect the body from foreign invaders. Includes the thymus, spleen, lymph nodes, B and T cells, and antigen-presenting cells.
4. The complex group of organs like thymus, spleen, tonsils, lymphatic system, hematopoetic system and cells like lymphocytes, granulocytes, monocytes and macrophages that defends the body against infection or disease. It consists of a complex interrelated cellular, molecular and genetic component.
5. The complex group of organs and cells that defends the body against infection or disease.
6. Complex system in the body responsible for fighting disease. Its primary function is to identify foreign substances in the body (bacteria, viruses, fungi or parasites) and develop a defense against them. This defense is known as the immune response. It involves production of protein molecules called antibodies to eliminate foreign organisms that invade the body.
