Laboratory reagent blank

Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-015243

  1. 1. An aliquot of reagent water or other blank matrix that is treated exactly as a sample including exposure to all glassware, equipment, solvents, reagents, sample preservatives, internal standards, and surrogates that are used in the extraction batch. The LRB is used to determine if method analytes or other interferences are present in the laboratory environment, the reagents, or the apparatus. {OW/TSC}

    2. An aliquot of reagent water or other blank matrix that is treated exactly as a sample including exposure to all glassware, equipment, solvents, reagents, sample preservatives, internal standards, and surrogates that are used in the extraction batch. The LRB is used to determine if method analytes or other interferences are present in the laboratory environment, the reagents, or the apparatus

  2. (radiochemistry) The LRB consists of an aliquot of a blank matrix that is prepared and analyzed and results calculated exactly like a sample, including exposure to all glassware and equipment that are used in the preparation batch. The LRB is used to assess the process of handling, preparation and analysis for cross-contamination and for low-level analytical bias. {OW/TSC}
