Land Cover

1. Anything that exists on and is visible from above the earth's surface. Examples include water, vegetation and exposed or barren land.
2. Refers to the vegetation, structures, or other features that cover the land. For example, is the land covered by grass, by trees, by water, or by large buildings surrounded by a lawn.
3. The characteristics of a land surface as determined by its spectral signature (the unique way in which a given type of land cover reflects and absorbs light).
4. Anything that is visible from above the Earth's surface. Examples include vegetation, exposed or barren land, water, snow, and ice.
