Locus

1. A site on a chromosome where a gene or other measurable variation resides. The DNA at this chromosomal site may or may not have any functional significance to the organism.
2. A locus is the specific physical location of a gene or other DNA sequence on a chromosome, like a genetic street address. The plural of locus is "loci".
