Manipulationist causation
Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-016460
1. Manipulationist causation is the proposition that we know that a causal relationship exists when we have manipulated C and observed a response E. Further, in cases of a network of multiple factors that jointly affect E, a manipulationist says that the cause is the thing that we manipulate. Symbolically, we distinguish interventional probabilities P(E|do C) from the simple conditional probability P(E|C). Intervention is often a synonym for manipulation although some authors distinguish the two.
