Maximum Test Engine Speed

Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-016777

1. Engine speed defined by § 94.107 to be the maximum engine speed to use during testing.

2. Meaning given in 40 CFR 1065.1001. [40 CFR 1039.801 (CFR 2013)][40 CFR 1042.901 (CFR 2013)]

3. For transient testing of constant-speed engines, maximum test speed means the highest speed at which the engine produces zero torque.

4. For all testing with two-stroke engines and for testing four-stroke engines on an engine dynamometer, maximum test speed has the meaning given in 40 CFR 1065.1001 and § 1045.501

5. For testing a four-stroke engine that remains installed in a vessel, maximum test speed means the engine speed during sustained operation with maximum operator demand.

6. Meaning given in § 1065.610.

7. For variable-speed engines, maximum test speed has the meaning given in 40 CFR 1065.1001.

8. For steady-state testing of constant-speed engines, maximum test speed means the speed at which the engine produces peak torque.
