1. Specific environmental compartments-air, water, soil-which are the subject of regulatory concern and activities.

3. Specific environments - air, water, soil - that are the subject of regulatory concern and activities because of potential for human exposure.
4. The means or substance through which something is transmitted, e.g., air, water, or soil.
