Microorganism

1. A microscopic organism, especially a bacterium, fungus, or protozoan.
2. Bacteria, yeasts, simple fungi, algae, protozoans, and a number of other organisms that are microscopic in size. Most are beneficial but some produce disease. Others are involved in composting and sewage treatment.
3. A microscopic life form that cannot be seen with the naked eye. Types of microorganisms include: bacteria, viruses, protozoa, fungi, yeasts, and some parasites and algae.
4. Units used in the science of biological classification, or taxonomy.
5. An organism that can only be seen with a microscope.
