Non-Ester Renewable Diesel

1. Motor vehicle fuel or fuel additive which is all the following: registered as a motor vehicle fuel or fuel additive under 40 CFR part 79; not a mono-alkyl ester; intended for use in engines that are designed to run on conventional diesel fuel, and derived from nonpetroleum renewable resources.

2. Also known as renewable diesel, means renewable fuel which is all of the following:(1) A fuel which can be used in an engine designed to operate on conventional diesel fuel, or be heating oil or jet fuel.(2) Not a mono-alkyl ester.

3. Renewable fuel that is not a mono-alkyl ester and that is either: (1) A fuel or fuel additive that meets the Grade No. 1-D or No. 2-D specification in ASTM D975 (incorporated by reference, see § 80.12) and can be used in an engine designed to operate on conventional diesel fuel; or (2) A fuel or fuel additive that is registered under 40 CFR part 79 and can be used in an engine designed to operate using conventional diesel fuel.
