performance standard
Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-020566
1. Standard of performance proposed or promulgated under this part.
2. National emission standard including a design, equipment, work practice or operational standard for a hazardous air pollutant proposed or promulgated under this part.
3. National ambient air quality standard.
4. Provisions in consent decrees and administrative orders specifying specific levels of performance that site activities must achieve; often incorporated by reference into the record decision. The inclusion of such performance standards enables the Agency to assure measurable levels of cleanup that provide the protection desired.
5. Observable or measurable physical (including hydrological), chemical and/or biological attributes that are used to determine if a compensatory mitigation project meets its objectives.
6. Any restriction established by the Administrator pursuant to section 306 of the Act on quantities, rates, and concentrations of chemical, physical, biological, and other constituents which are or may be discharged from new sources into navigable waters, the waters of the contiguous zone or the ocean.
7. The requirement for certain results or outcomes. Usually used to describe results-based regulations, performance standards shy away from prescribing practices or specifications, and do not stipulate the type of technology or other requirements to be used when complying with the regulations.
