Examples of common types of air pollution control equipment include the following: Scrubbers, which use water to remove SOx and particulates from exhaust gases; Incinerators (or thermal oxidizers), which use intense heat to destroy organic contaminants; Baghouses, which trap and remove particulates from an exhaust stream; Catalysts, which cause chemical reactions that break the pollutants down into less harmful by-products. For example, most cars today are equipped with catalytic converters which turn CO into CO2, NOx into plain nitrogen, and organic compounds into water and CO2.",
