Sample Process Control, or Internal Control

Functions like the target in its ability to be collected, concentrated and detected. A sample process control, or internal control, may be required or needed when the target organism is low in prevalence and highly pathogenic (i.e., low infectious dose), or if the surrogate is an indicator for a specific pathogen or set of pathogens.
