1. The intersection of a specified plane of water with the shore or beach; on National Ocean Service nautical charts and surveys, the line representing the shoreline approximates the mean high water line.

2. That strip of ground bordering any body of water which is alternately exposed, or covered by tides and/or waves. A shore of unconsolidated material is usually called a beach.
