Silt Fence

1. Temporary sediment control device used on construction sites to protect water quality in nearby surface waters from sediment (loose soil) in stormwater runoff. A typical fence consists of a piece of synthetic filter fabric (also called a geotextile) stretched between a series of wooden or metal stakes.

2. A temporary barrier used to intercept sediment-laden runoff from small areas.
