1. Particles suspended in air after incomplete combustion.

2. The airborne solid and liquid particles and gases that evolve when material undergoes pyrolysis or combustion.

3. Smoke in various concentrations can cause significant problems for people with respiratory ailments. It becomes a more universal hazard when visibilities are reduced to ¼ mile or less.

4. Matter in the engine exhaust which obscures the transmission of light. [40 CFR 92.2 (CFR 2013)]

5. Matter in exhaust emissions that obscures the transmission of light, as measured by the test procedures specified in subpart G of this part.
