Smoke
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010960
An aerosol of solid particles or liquid droplets suspended in a gas, formed from incomplete combustion or other thermal decomposition processes like pyrolysis. The suspended particles are typically very small, with diameters under one micrometer, and can remain airborne for extended periods. Smoke is distinguished from dust, which is formed by mechanical disintegration, and from fog or mist, which consist of liquid droplets formed by condensation.
