Passive smoking
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008536
The breathing in of tobacco smoke by non-smokers who share air with smokers, known as exposure to environmental tobacco smoke. This smoke is a mixture of sidestream smoke from the smouldering tip of a cigarette and mainstream smoke exhaled by the smoker. Chronic exposure raises the risk of respiratory illness, heart disease and lung cancer in non-smokers, at a lower level than active smoking.
