Passive metal
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008533
A metal that exhibits significantly reduced reactivity or corrosion rate due to the formation of a thin, adherent, and protective surface film, typically an oxide. This film acts as a barrier, isolating the metal from its environment. Stainless steel and titanium are common examples of passive metals.
