Passive immunization

The transfer of pre-formed antibodies from one individual to another to provide immediate, but temporary, protection against a specific pathogen or toxin. This can occur naturally, such as maternal antibodies passing to a fetus, or artificially through the administration of antiserum. The protection typically lasts for weeks to months.
