Passive state
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008537
The condition of a metal surface where its corrosion rate is significantly reduced due to the formation of a protective, often invisible, surface film. This film acts as a barrier, preventing direct contact between the metal and the corrosive environment. Metals in this state exhibit a much higher resistance to degradation than in their active state.
