Film
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004420
Condensed matter that is restricted in one dimension, so its thickness is small compared with its lateral size, as in a soap lamella, a coating on a substrate, or a liquid layer between two interfaces. Its boundaries are two interfaces, at least one of which may be a fluid phase. No universal thickness separates thin from thick films, and the cutoff is set by convention within each field.
