Stratified film

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011458

A thin liquid film, such as a soap or foam film, in which several distinct thicknesses coexist side by side in a fixed pattern for a long time, giving stepwise thickness domains. The steps arise when ordered layers of micelles or particles inside the film are removed one layer at a time, so neighbouring domains differ in thickness by roughly one layer spacing.
