Layer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013231
A notional region with extent limited in one direction, located inside a condensed phase or on its surface, or inside a film. It can be as thin as a single atomic or molecular plane, a monolayer, or much thicker. Using the word film as a name for an adsorption layer is discouraged, and a double layer is a layer approximated by two distinct sublayers.
