Diffuse layer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003184
A region of mobile ions in an electrolyte solution adjacent to a charged surface, where the concentration of ions is influenced by both electrostatic forces and thermal motion. This layer extends further into the bulk solution than the compact inner layer. It is a key component of the electrical double layer at interfaces.
