Stern layer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011399
The inner part of the electrical double layer surrounding a charged surface in an electrolyte solution, where counter-ions are specifically adsorbed or strongly attracted to the surface. This layer is relatively rigid and immediately adjacent to the charged surface. It is distinct from the diffuse layer, which extends further into the bulk solution.
