Electrical double layer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003643
A structure that appears at the interface between a charged surface, such as an electrode, and an ionic conductor, like an electrolyte solution. It consists of a layer of charge accumulated on the surface and a corresponding layer of counter-ions that have migrated to the interface from the bulk solution. The arrangement of these two charged layers creates a strong electric field localized at the interface.
