Electrical double layer
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001268
A structure that forms at the interface between a solid surface and an electrolyte solution, consisting of two parallel layers of charge. The first layer comprises ions adsorbed onto the solid surface, while the second layer consists of counter-ions in the fluid that neutralize the surface charge. This phenomenon influences the electrochemical properties of shales and clays, affecting resistivity measurements in well logging.
