Filter cake

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001398

A layer of solid particles that accumulates on the wellbore wall during drilling, formed by the filtration of drilling fluid into permeable formations. This layer consists of clay, polymers, and other solids from the mud, acting as a low-permeability barrier. A well-formed filter cake minimizes fluid loss and stabilizes the borehole.
