Filtration
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001412
The process by which the liquid phase of a drilling fluid passes into a permeable formation, leaving solid components behind as a filter cake on the formation wall. This fluid loss is controlled by additives that form a thin, low-permeability seal. The rate of filtration and the thickness of the filter cake are measured in a laboratory using a filter press under standard conditions of 100 psi pressure and a specified temperature.
